Huskers Fall Short Against Ole Miss

Oxford, Miss. – The No. 11 Nebraska rifle team fell short of a victory today against seventh-ranked Ole Miss, losing the match 4,665-4,651. The Huskers grabbed an early lead in smallbore but could not hang on when the Rebels took seven of the top 10 spots in air rifle.

NU outscored Ole Miss in smallbore, 2,308-2,306. Emily Cheramie was out front for the Huskers with 582, followed by Bailey Powell (578). Samantha Peterson and Kayla Gadeken added consistency with 574 scores. Rachel Yager rounded out the squadded effort with a mark of 568. Nina Radulovic, shooting independently, notched a season-high 574.

Ole Miss took the lead in air rifle, outscoring the Huskers 2,343-2,359. Bailey Powell led Nebraska’s effort with 590. Nina Radulovic was close behind with her second season-high score of the day (588). Hannah Virga (583), Samantha Peterson (582) and Emily Cheramie (581) accounted for the rest of Nebraska’s scores.

Abby Buessler led the Ole Miss smallbore effort with 580, followed by Jillian Zakrzeski’s mark of 577. Erin Walsh led the Rebels in air rifle with 593. Kamilla Kisch added 591.

Match action will continue tomorrow on Feb. 3 in Memphis, Tenn. when the Huskers compete Memphis. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Fans can follow along on social media.
