Huskers Finish Strong at Mid-Winter Classic

Jonesboro, Ark.- The Nebraska bowling team went 8-5 over the weekend at the Mid-Winter Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The Huskers went 3-0 on Sunday, defeating three ranked teams to finish the tournament in seventh place.

The Huskers began Sunday with a 4-1 victory in their first match of the day against No. 22 Maryville. With the win, the Huskers played No. 6 Tulane. NU came out strong, winning the first three matches 204-192, 214-204, and 223-148. The Huskers dropped the next two matches 181-193 and 169-177 before taking the final game 195-193. In their final match of the day, the Huskers took down Louisiana Tech 4-0 to secure a seventh-place finish.

"The end of the Christmas Break, after a very competitive fall season, was too close to the start of the second semester for a worthwhile preparedness," said Head Coach Bill Straub. "The first two days of this event were awful. Today was the exact opposite. The team performed in an excellent manner and lapped the competition. Hopefully, that can stay this way through upcoming events.”

The Huskers will return to the lanes next Friday through Sunday at the Colombia 300 Saints in St. Louis, Mo.
