Huskers Finish Second in Hawkeye Invitational

Iowa City, Iowa- The Nebraska swimming and diving team finished in second place at the Hawkeye Invitational this weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. Their final team score was a 931, coming behind Minnesota's 1,136.

Following Friday's performances, the Huskers took fourth place in the 200-yard medley relay with Autumn Haebig, Tori Beeler, Dana Posthuma and Lindsay Helferich in the lane (1:40.71). Beeler also took fourth place in the 400-yard individual medley (4:21.40). She was followed by Anna McDonald (4:22.36) and Alli Kopas (4:23.89) who took ninth and tenth place, respectively. 

Posthuma posted a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (54.60).

Haebig added a fifth-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.26) and a third-place win in the 100-yard backstroke (54.84). She was followed by Clara Walstad who came in fifth-place with her time of 55.15.

Beeler got on the board again for the Huskers finishing sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.31).

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Savannah Savitt, Allie Worrall, Carla Gonzalez-Garcia and Haebig brought in a second-place performance (7:17.94).

Audrey Coffey finished sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:.48.61), followed by Rachel Powers for seventh (16:50.51).

In the 200-yard backstroke, McDonald came in fourth (1:59.74) and McCafferty came in sixth (2:00.78).

Helferich got on the board individually with a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (50.75). Gwen Worlton added a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.56).

Freshman Madison Coughlen finished third in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.37).

On the diving front, Abi Knapton took second in the three-meter dive event (338.00) and first in the platform diving event (343.85), a meet record. She was followed by Jessica Warak for second (273.95).

The Huskers wrapped up the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Helferich, Walstad, Worrall and Haebig (3:23.64).

The Big Red will continue their dual season in Omaha as they take on their in-state foe the Omaha Mavericks on Sat, Jan 12 at 2 p.m.
