Jacksonville, Ala. – The Nebraska rifle team came together to produce an overall team score of 4,669 at the Gamecock Open. The score is the best aggregate score the Huskers have recorded so far this season.
Big Red’s smallbore effort was the driving force behind the high aggregate score. The Huskers combined for a season-high total score of 2,317. Emily Cheramie was out front for NU with 582, followed closely by Samantha Peterson (580). Kayla Gadeken and Elena Flake brought in 578 and 577, respectively. Rachel Yager rounded out the Huskers with 573.
Nebraska’s air rifle performance was highlighted by All-American Samantha Peterson’s personal best score of 594. Emily Cheramie and Kinga Aletto both added 587. Elizabeth Lorentz and Bailey Powell rounded out the Huskers with 584 and 582, respectively. NU recorded an overall team score of 2,352.
The Huskers were joined on the range today by several other teams as part of the open match, including Jacksonville State, Memphis, Alaska, University of Alabama-Birmingham, North Georgia and University of Tennessee-Martin. Also shooting were junior shooters and members of the public.
The Gamecock Open served as the conclusion of the fall season for Nebraska. The Huskers will compete again on Jan. 12-13 when they travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army West Point and Coast Guard. Match action is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
