Kate Smith shot a final-round 74 to lead the Nebraska women's golf team to its best round of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Sunday in Colorado.
Smith, a junior from Detroit Lakes, Minn., finished with a three-round total of 225 (+9) to finish in a tie for 33rd in the 90-player field. The Huskers settled for a 16th-place finish on the par-72, 6,513-yard layout of the Highlands Ranch Golf Club over the course of the three-day event. Nebraska's final-round 299 was its best round of the tournament, as the Huskers finished with a three-day total of 919.
Colorado State led the tournament from start to finish with consistent rounds of 286-287-287 to finish at 860 (-4). The Rams held off the runner-ups from Ole Miss (871) by 11 strokes, while UC Davis finished third at 875.
Colorado State's Ellen Secor took medalist honors with a three-under-par 213 over 54 holes. She defeated teammate Katrina Prendergast and Connor Beth Ball from Ole Miss by one stroke.
Freshman Vanessa Bouvet was Nebraska's No. 2 finisher in the lineup behind Smith, tying for 50th with a three-round score of 229, including a final-round 76 on Sunday.
Fellow Husker Noor Ahmed tied Bouvet with a 54-hole score of 229, including a final-round 73. Ahmed, a sophomore from Folsom, Calif., competed as an individual outside the Husker lineup during the tournament.
Sophomore Hannah Thiele (Wahoo, Neb.), who made her first lineup appearance of the season for the Huskers, added a tie for 69th at 232, including a final-round 73 on Sunday. Her older sister, Haley, tied for 75th at 234, including a final-round 77. Kirsten Baete (Beatrice, Neb.) rounded out Nebraska's 299 on Sunday with her four-over 76, while tying for 80th individually at 238 for the tournament.
Nebraska will take two weeks off from competition before returning to action at the UNLV Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nevada, Oct. 21-23.
