Huskers Travel to Akron

The No. 11 Nebraska rifle team heads to Akron, Ohio to face Akron and Morehead State after two weeks off. The Zips and Eagles are currently tied in the CRCA Top 20 poll, both ranked No. 12. Match action is set to begin at 7 a.m. on Nov. 3 and 4.

Last Time Out

Nebraska took the range on Oct. 21 in Morgantown, W. Va. in a 4,660-4,712 loss to West Virginia. Samantha Peterson led the Huskers in both disciplines, firing 584 in smallbore and 592 in air rifle. Kayla Gadeken brought in 578 for smallbore and Bailey Powell added 590 to NU’s air rifle effort.

Series History

Nebraska holds a 12-0 record against Akron dating back to 2001, and hope to continue the trend this weekend. The Huskers hold a 3-2 record against Morehead State since 1999, notching victories in the last three meetings.

Scouting Akron

The Zips haven’t officially competed since Oct. 13 when they fell to Navy and NC State, bringing them to a 1-3 record. Akron fired a team score of 4,569, led by Antonio Gross’ mark of 584 in smallbore and Lauryn Cinadr’s 592 in air rifle. The shooters to watch are sophomore Wyatt Openshaw and junior Lauryn Cinadr. Both notched season highs in air rifle above 590 during the 2017-18 season.

Scouting Morehead State   

The Eagles currently hold a 3-2 record, the result of winning their first three matches and placing third against Murray State and Kentucky. The match against Murray State and Kentucky, held on Oct. 13, resulted in a school record team score of 4,659. Shooters to watch include freshman Katie Frye and junior Alexa Potts. Frye regularly leads Morehead State in smallbore, recording a career-high score of 582 in the most recent outing. Potts is routinely out front in air rifle, with a career high of 592.
