Bethune-Cookman HC Terry Sims

Opening Statement
“We were definitely appreciative of the opportunity to have a test to come to Nebraska and play in a historical venue such as Memorial Stadium, and play a program like Nebraska. I don’t think we played our best, but the outcome is what it is and we'll go back, clean up some things and get ready for the game next week… but again, we had some guys that left it out on the field today that played their hearts out, and we’ll check it out on film and see what mistakes we need to correct.”

On his initial thoughts on the offer to play at Nebraska
“No way... but after a couple of phone calls and really just taking in the whole idea of the opportunity of coming and play, I couldn’t take this away from my players. This is something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. Having an opportunity to come here and play a program such as Nebraska, it’s something that needed to be done. It’s going to do nothing but help our program, it’s going to increase our game speed... because when you play a program like this, you have to increase your game speed. I guess you guys saw the first couple of series, we had to step it up a little bit, because the game speed was a little bit faster than what we’re used to, but we picked up. We started matching the game speed a little bit and I think we made some positive plays out there and some things to build on.”

On the experience of coming to Nebraska
“Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect, we actually stayed in Omaha and everyone involved with our program echoed the same thing: it’s probably the nicest group of people you’ll ever be around. Everyone was very welcoming, they didn’t ask us to do anything outside of the norm. It made it very comfortable for us, which we’re thankful for, and like I said, I didn’t know what to expect, but I know now and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back, not only to play a game but come back and visit. It’s a great place.”

On reconnecting with Nebraska’s tight ends coach Sean Beckton
“It was great coming back and reconnecting with Coach Beckton. His brother actually coached basketball at our school a few years back, and so that’s how the relationship began. It was great seeing him and seeing somebody that you know stepping up the ladder in this profession. It’s great for him and his family. Having that brief relationship in the last couple of years with Coach Frost, it’s just great, coming back and seeing him again, seeing that he’s finally getting his program on track, getting the guys in the game and on the field that he wants. That’s one thing we talked about a lot in pregame, just doing it your way. He does it his way and gets the guys in that he wants in. Things will work out, and nothing but positive things will come in the future.”

On his positive takeaways from today’s game
“Number one we can look at the time of possession. We can look at turnovers, we can look at third down stops, and look at third down conversions for our team. I think there are a few things that we can look at and take back to build on for next week.”
