Friday-Sunday, October 26-28, 9:40 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. (CT) Fairview Heights, Ill. (St. Clair Bowl) The Nebraska bowling team returns for the 2018-19 season to compete for the title at the Bearcat Hammer Open this Friday through Sunday. The tournament is hosted by No. 2 McKendree and will take place at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.
The teams joining the Huskers in Fairview include three of the top five teams in the nation, including No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Mckendree and No. 5 Arkansas State. The remaining teams include five of the top 25 teams in No. 11 North Carolina A&T, No. 14 Lincoln Memorial, No. 18 Central Missouri, No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 22 Maryville. Prairie View A&M, Valparaiso, Drury, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lewis, Lincoln University and North Central College round out the 16 teams competing.
The Huskers will be led by duo Meghan Straub and Raquel Orozco, who both earned All-America honors last season. Senior Meghan Straub heads into the first tournament of her final season as captain of the team. Straub earned third-team All-America honors last season, ending with a season average of 206.8. Orozco ended the regular season with an average of 211.8 and collected first-team All-America honors. Alison Morris returns for her final year with the Huskers as a solid player in Nebraska’s five-person rotation.
Competition begins Friday morning at 9:40 a.m. with five sets of five-game Baker matches, followed by five traditional matches on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Combined results from Friday and Saturday will determine the seeding for Sunday’s bracket-play championship tournament, in which each team will play three rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
