Pre-Wisconsin

Adrian Martinez
Freshman, Quarterback
On Tanner Farmer as the center
“He works into the rotation during practice. We do a thing called “Cs and Qs” every practice which I think you guys have seen and in pregame as well. He’s gotten plenty of snaps. He got a few snaps before he went in but he is a smart guy and he’s got everything dialed in.”

On using the Michigan experience to prepare for Wisconsin
“Honestly just having that warrior mentality. Knowing that it is going to be a little rowdy. Things might not go our way with the refs, with certain calls or whatever but just keep your head down and know that we are all we have. On the road it’s the teammates, the coaches, it’s us and that is it.”

On the last three drives against Purdue
“Most definitely, I think it was a matter of a few decisions by me away from really coming through on that. We had a few opportunities, we had really hit our stride offensively, obviously there for a little bit but then stalled as soon as the defense started, making some stops. I think that interception, as I spoke to on Saturday, hurt for sure on that drive. We had another opportunity on the following drive. I think if those had gone different ways it would have turned out a little bit better for us.”

On film with quarterback Coach Mario Verduzco
“He does his usual routine of getting up at 4:30 in the morning, I am sure you guys have heard of that, and writes a full game evaluation, very detailed. Then we get there in the morning and go pick that up. We talk about the game, kind if an overview. And then we watch film. Individually, going through the game evaluation and kind of play-by-play seeing what we did, seeing what he thought and going from there.”

On motivation
“I would say a few things. First off, my family. My father has been a huge influence on me and has always kept me grounded. I have so many people in my life, and since coming here even more people that I can really rely on to support me. I think it is just who I am as a person, how I was raised to be resilient, not to accept defeat and to just keep moving forward. The sun always shows up the next day. Just knowing that and then just knowing there are brighter days ahead. If I keep pushing the result will be there soon enough.”

On any eye-opening experiences
“I think the experience, in general, has just been so awesome for me. It is hard to describe it as any other way. Growing up, this is all I wanted to do. I wanted to play college football so bad and to come to a place like Nebraska, playing in front of these fans and this stadium. Getting to go to the big house, getting to play Wisconsin, this is what it is about. At the end of the day, it is hard not to just be thankful to have this opportunity.’

On Wisconsin
“Obviously they are a very tough team. They are not going to make a whole lot of mistakes defensively or offensively. We are going to have to take advantage of our possessions on offense. They are the type of team where I think will use some clock so we're not going to have as many possessions or as many plays. So, it is about being as efficient as possible offensively for us.”

On playing at Wisconsin
“I am excited for the opportunity. That is what college football is about. I think if you are not a competitor you would be afraid, but, I am a competitor. I think we are going to be prepared. With Scott Frost and these guys I have behind me, I am going to be confident going in.”

On redshirt freshman wide-receiver Kade Warner
“He is “Mr. Consistent”. I think if you would have asked us about him back in spring ball we would say that he’s a guy that knows what he’s doing, a guy that we can count on our there. I think where he is going to be on the field and that is nice to have as a quarterback. I can rely on him to catch the ball, to run the right route, to block his guy and I think that is definitely a good thing right now for us.”

On that no one on the roster has beaten Wisconsin in the past
“That’s not necessarily something we talk about. It is something that I wasn’t fully aware of, to be honest with you. But, I think it is something that needs to happen while we’re here. I think that is everyone’s goal obviously, to beat Wisconsin. It is something we need to do. They are a tough team that rules on our side of the division I think for a little while here. They are definitely a team that I think we’re aiming to take off.”

On the offense
“I think it starts with the offensive line obviously setting the tone at the line of scrimmage. I think they did a good job. And then there is also there is also the threat of us keeping the ball on certain plays along with the fact that [Senior running back] Devine (Ozigbo) is running hard. I think you can go back on a lot of those plays and see him going full speed. That is a big part of it, just being decisive and making those cuts and I don’t think guys wanted to tackle him.”

On specific things the offense has done well
“I think you look back at that third quarter and we were looking how we are supposed to. We were doing what we were expected to do from the beginning of the season. We were hitting on all cylinders there and just being efficient and fast with tempo, and that first drive as well. So, kind of looking at those moments and knowing we need to be like that all the time. If we can do that we will be really deadly offensively."

On road trips
“Just knowing that we are all we got and things might not go our way. It is going to be a tough environment so just staying consistent and true to who we are.”

On Coach Frosts emotions in the locker room
“Definitely, I would say he was emotional as you described it.  I think he is just passionate. Passionate about this team, passionate about us, and knows we can be better. We know we can be better and I think it is disappointing as a whole and unacceptable. We are working to get that fixed.”

On Frost’s passion as motivation
“Of course. I mean since the first time I met Coach Frost I have wanted to play for him, I wanted to fight for him, and I think this team does too. I think some people might not know what that requires. I think just getting that instilled is part of that process.”
