Muhleisen Joins Husker Basketball Broadcast Team

Lincoln – The Husker basketball broadcast team will have a new sound to it, as former Husker point guard Jake Muhleisen (pronounced MULE-high-sen) will join Kent Pavelka on the Husker IMG Sports Radio Network  this season.

Muhleisen, a three-year Husker captain during his playing career, will serve as the full-time color analyst after seeing spot duty in that role in recent seasons. He replaces Matt Davison, who served on the basketball broadcasts for 15 years before moving into a full-time role as Associate A.D./Football last winter.

Mulheisen was a four-year starter for the Huskers under Barry Collier, totaling 901 points and 284 assists during his collegiate career. He ranks ninth in school history with 98 starts, as he started 98 of the 100 games in his collegiate career. An eight-time member of the Big Ten Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Muhleisen received his degree from Nebraska in 2004.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Husker radio broadcast team and work alongside Kent Pavelka for the upcoming 2018-2019 basketball season.” Muhleisen said. “I am fortunate to work for such a great company in Union Bank & Trust that encourages their employees to follow their passions outside of work and my customers will continue to be my top priority during the Husker basketball season.  The Huskers have a great core of returning players and I appreciate the opportunity from Coach Miles, Kent, David Witty, Mike Elliott and the rest of the Husker Sports Network staff.  I look forward to a great season of Husker hoops.”

He joins long-time play-by-play announcer Kent Pavelka, who will begin his 32nd year of broadcasting Husker basketball this season. Pavelka, who began broadcasting Husker games in 1974 and returned to a full-time role with the network in 2006, is six-time winner of the Nebraska Sportscaster-of-the-Year Award and will broadcast his 1,000th Husker basketball game this season.  Pavelka was honored in January 2009 with the Bud Cuca Special Merit Award given by the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame for his contributions to the NU men’s basketball program.

Ben McLaughlin will also be part of the broadcast team for selected broadcasts during the year. McLaughlin co-hosts Sports Nightly and is part of the network’s football and baseball broadcast teams.

The Husker IMG Sports Radio Network includes 25 affiliates around the state, including KLIN (1400 AM) in Lincoln, KXSP (590 AM) in Omaha and KRVN (880 AM) in Lexington. All broadcasts are heard live on Huskers.com, the Husker App, the TuneIn Radio App and TuneIn.com/Huskers while select games are available on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.
