Pre-Colorado
Senior Running Back Devine Ozigbo
On how he passed the time waiting for a decision after the team left the field
“I spent most of it in the weight room, I was in (Head Football Strength & Conditioning Coach Zach Duval’s) office, a bunch of guys were just talking about possible situations and watching some games that were on TV”
On how much it meant to be on the top of the depth chart going into this game
“It meant a lot, and that was definitely one of the reasons I was really hoping this game would end up being played, because that definitely was something I wanted to show and put on display. The whole team, we’ve worked really hard all summer and all last spring to come out here and perform. All that hype and not being able to do it was kind of disappointing. We’ve put a lot of work in, and I’ve done my fair share so I was definitely happy about it, just wanted to show it.”
On how he thought Monday’s practice went
“It actually had a pretty good feeling to it, you could tell it was a pretty good Monday practice. Everyone was moving around pretty well, the energy in practice was there. We’ve still got first-game jitters so I don’t think that’s going to go away until we get out there so we’re going to be really excited.”
On whether his routine changed on Sunday
“We didn’t have any game film to watch, but it didn’t really seem too off besides the fact we didn’t play. It was just getting through it, getting the little things done, getting some meals in and going home.”
On how freshman quarterback Adrian Martinez looked before the game
“He looked good, he wasn’t nervous. He didn’t look fried, he wasn’t wide-eyed or anything, he looked confident, he looked calm. That’s the kind of kid he is. I’ve never seen him really too frantic about anything, he’s pretty cool-headed. He rallies the troops but that’s it. He’s one of those guys you can trust to have a cool head.”
On whether he hopes they find a 12th game
“Honestly I would love to play a 12th game. Honestly they’re talking about the bye week situation, that would be kind of tough but I wouldn’t be opposed to playing a game at the end of the season like that.”
On how the idea of putting area codes on players helmets came up
“I think it was just somebody kind of heard about it. The first time I ever heard about it was one of the guys on our team talking about it, they did it at UCF. We were like yeah, that’d be dope if they did it here, and then all of a sudden Jay (Football Equipment Manager Jay Terry) was going around asking for area codes, and we’re like oh we’re about to get it, and when it came around it was pretty cool.”
On why he thought it was pretty cool
“It’s just like, never forget where you came from, bring in like the whole high school, that’s the big thing. There’s so many arguments that go on, like oh Texas ball is better than Florida ball, everybody’s always like keeps that with them, just be able to bring that little bit of personal with you, I thought that was pretty cool.”
On how the run game has changed for him
“It’s just all out of shotgun. Honestly, it’s just a bunch of the shotgun plays. We have a lot of different presentations and a lot of different formations. I think it’s a little more deceptive, and a little more creative, I like it because being out of shotgun you’re going to have to do things a little differently to get open, and stuff like that. I definitely like it, I definitely think it’s going to be one that’s hard to key.”
