Lincoln, Neb. – The three-day ITA Summer Circuit hosted by the University of Nebraska finished up on Monday morning. Five Huskers women's players and two players from the men's team competed in the circuit.
Two rounds of singles and doubles play kicked off tournament action at the Dillon Tennis Center on Saturday. Two more rounds of singles and doubles were played on Sunday, including doubles finals. Finals matches for singles competition will took place this morning.
Day 1 Singles Results:
On the men’s side, Jon Meyer won his first match 6-0, 6-2. In his second round match he lost 6-2, 6-3. William Gleason won his first round match 6-2, 6-2 and his second round match 6-1, 6-2. He will play in the semifinals at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
On the women’s side, Claire Reifeis won her second round match 6-0, 6-1 after receiving a first round bye. She competes in the quarterfinals Sunday at 9 a.m. Emma Worley won her first round match on Saturday 6-2, 6-3 but lost a thriller in her second round match 2-6, 7-5, 10-7. Hayley Haakenstad won her second round match 7-5, 6-4 and will compete in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m on Sunday. Incoming freshman Jessica Aragon won her second round match 6-0, 6-1 and will compete in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. on Sunday. M’balia Bangoura won both her first and second round matches to advance to the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. on Sunday. She won her first match 6-1, 6-0 and her second match 6-3. 6-0. There is potential for an all-Huskers semifinals in this ITA Summer Circuit event. Reifeis and Haakenstad are on the same side of the bracket and Bangoura and Aragon are on the other. If each wins their quarterfinals match, they will all square off at 12 p.m. on Sunday with the championship set for Monday at 9 a.m.
Day 1 Doubles Results:
On the men’s side, Jon Meyer competed with partner Jackson Guilford. They won their quarterfinal match 8-5 but fell in the semifinals 8-5. William Gleason and his partner Josh Bortnick fell in the quarterfinals 8-6 to end their run at a championship in men’s doubles.
On the women’s side, Huskers Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad played together and won their quarterfinal match 8-2. They will play in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Emma Worley and Jessica Aragon also played together for women’s doubles, but were defeated in their quarterfinal match 8-2.
Day 2 Singles Results:
Claire Reifeis had another excellent day on the women's side as she won her quarterfinal match 6-1, 6-2 before defeating teammate Hayley Haakenstad in her semifinal match 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the women's singles championship, which will be Monday at 9 a.m. Haakenstad won her quarterfinal match 7-5, 6-4 before falling to Reifeis in the semis. Jessica Aragon and M'balia Bangoura were both defeated in their quarterfinal matchups by the scores of 6-1, 6-3.
On the men's side, William Gleason lost his semifinal match in a thriller, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2). Jon Meyer did not compete.
Day 2 Doubles Results:
The Huskers dynamic duo of Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad won their semifinal matchup 8-1 before taking the women's doubles championship by the score of 8-4. The two won outscored their opponents in three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-7.
The men's doubles championship was the only match to be played on Sunday as the first two rounds were completed Saturday. Grigorescu/Marupudi won on a withdrawal by Dobbs/Trodson as an injury prevented the match from being played.
Day 3 Singles Results:
In the lone match of the day, Claire Reifeis defeated Emily Strande 7-5, 6-2 to win the women's singles championship. Her victory capped off an undefeated weekend for her in which she won all seven (four singles and three doubles) matches she participated in. She failed to lose a set all weekend.
