Huskers Celebrate Season at Awards Banquet

The Nebraska women's basketball team celebrated the official close of its 2017-18 season with players and their families, coaches, staff members and invited guests at its annual awards banquet on Friday night at the Grand Manse in Lincoln.

With nearly 300 people in attendance at the Jasmine Room, Big Ten Coach-of-the-Year Amy Williams and her staff honored Nebraska's three seniors - Jasmine Cincore, Janay Morton and Emily Wood - while also handing out several special team awards throughout the evening.

Sophomore guard Hannah Whitish, a second-team All-Big Ten selection, earned Nebraska's Outstanding Offensive Player Award, while senior guard Jasmine Cincore was presented with the Outstanding Defensive Player Award. Janay Morton claimed Nebraska's Most Improved Player Award, while junior forward Maddie Simon captured the Kathy Branchaud Most Improved Rebounder Award.

Freshman center Kate Cain was recognized for earning spots on the Big Ten All-Defensive and All-Freshman teams, while also shattering the Nebraska single-season blocked shot record with 100 on the year.

Emily Wood collected the most hardware at the event. Wood was honored for the second straight season with the program's Husker Award, while also capturing the Nebraska Women's Basketball Lifter-of-the-Year Award for the first time in her career. She was also presented the Dr. Barbara Hibner Scholarship Award.
