Scott Schreiber is one of 10 baseball finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the diamond. The award focuses on the areas of community, classroom, character and competition.
Schreiber, a Menasha, Wis., native, elected to return for his senior season after being drafted in the 26th Round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. The acronym for the Senior CLASS Award is Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School.
Schreiber, a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, leads the Husker offense in most statistical categories this season, including batting average (.385), hits (60), doubles (11), runs scored (42) and home runs (13). He is ranked in the top five of the Big Ten in each of those categories.
For his work in the classroom, Schreiber is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll member.
Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced on March 21. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 28. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. This year’s Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2018 College World Series in June.
