Kate Smith produced a top-20 finish at the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship by closing the 54-hole event with a 75 in the final round on Sunday at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio.
Smith, a sophomore from Detroit Lakes, Minn., tied for 19th in an 84-player field with a three-round total of 218 (75-68-75) to lead the Huskers at the three-day tournament on the par-72, 6,357-yard layout at TPC River's Bend. Smith defeated five top-100 golfers nationally during the tournament, which included 11 top-100 players overall.
Noor Ahmed, a freshman from Folsom, Calif., added a 76 on Sunday to secure Nebraska's No. 2 overall finish at 225 (72-77-76). Ahmed finished in a tie for 40th, while senior Audrey Judd (Olathe, Kan.) also shot a final-round 76 to tie for 49th at 228 (77-75-76).
Sophomore Annie Sritragul (Bangkok, Thailand) gave Nebraska a third 76 in the final round, as she finished in tie for 70th overall at 235. Those four scores gave Nebraska a third-round team total of 303, as the Huskers finished 13th overall at 905.
Michigan State captured the team title with a final-round 290 to finish at 859, four strokes ahead of Maryland and Illinois at 863. Northwestern and Ohio State tied for fourth at 865.
OSU's Jaclyn Lee claimed medalist honors, winning the individual title by four strokes with a 54-hole score of 207 (66-68-73). Michigan State's Sarah Burnham (72-69-70) and Maryland's Xiaolin Tian (72-67-72) tied for second at 211.
