Drake Defeats Huskers in Final Home Match of Season

Lincoln, Neb. -- In their final home match of the season, the Nebraska men’s tennis team fell to Drake 4-3. The 10-13 Huskers end their home season 8-5 and 0-5 in Big Ten play. 

In doubles play, Dylan Bednarczyk and Linus Erhart defeated Vinny Gillespie and Barny Thorold 6-3 in the No. 1 position. Toby Boyer and Isaac Nortey were bested by Ben Clark and Finley Hall in the No. 3 spot 6-3. Micah Klousia and Chris Dean fell to Tom Hands and Ben Wood to seal the doubles point for the Huskers 6-4.

In singles play, Bednarczyk was the first to fall, being defeated by Hands 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot. Erhart was bested by Gillespie 7-5, 6-2. Chris Dean continued his strong spring efforts with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Freddie Powell 6-2, 6-4. Boyer also continued his strong spring season defeating Thorold 7-6, 6-2. Nortey was defeated by Clark sealing the match for the Bulldogs. Klousia's match went unfinished.

The Huskers will finish their 2018 season with two road matches in Michigan. The Big Red will take on Michigan State on Saturday, April 21 with first serve set for 11 a.m. (Central) and on Sunday, April 22 to take on No. 12 Michigan beginning at 11 a.m. (Central) before heading to Iowa City, Iowa for the Big Ten Tournament beginning on April 26.
