Huskers Head to Cleveland for NCAA Championships

Seven Nebraska wrestlers will compete at the NCAA Championships this Thursday through Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The first of six sessions begins on Thursday at 11 a.m. (CT) with the pigtails and opening round, which is set to be televised on ESPNU. Thursday’s action continues at 6 p.m. (CT) with session II, consisting of both second round matches as well as consolation bouts on ESPN.

Friday’s sessions start at 10 a.m. (CT) and 7 p.m. (CT). Session III includes quarterfinals and consolation matches on ESPNU, while Session IV has the semifinals and consolation bouts on ESPN.

Session V, which includes the medal round matches, is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT) on ESPNU. The championship finals begin on Saturday at 7 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.

Every single match on every single mat will be streamed live on Watch ESPN, which can be accessed on a computer at WatchESPN.com or on a tablet or smartphone with the Watch ESPN app. Live scoring and brackets for the entirety of the tournament will be available on TrackWrestling.

The seven Huskers that qualified for the national meet include Jason Renteria (133), Chad Red Jr. (141), Colton McCrystal (149), Tyler Berger (157), Isaiah White (165), Taylor Venz (184) and Eric Schultz (197). Renteria, Red, McCrystal, Berger, White and Venz qualified based on their finish at the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago, while Schultz earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.

Four Huskers earned seeds for the NCAA Championships. Taylor Venz (184) is the highest seeded Husker at seventh at 184 pounds. Tyler Berger is eighth at 157 pounds, while Isaiah White is 11th at 165 and Colton McCrystal is 13th at 149.

Nebraska finished fifth as a team with 72.5 points at the Big Ten Championships on March 3-4.
