Huskers Meet SIUE and North Dakota on Saturday

Lincoln – The Nebraska women’s tennis team continues its homestand this Saturday with a doubleheader against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (1 p.m.) and North Dakota (4:30 p.m.) at the Dillon Tennis Center. Admission to both matches is free.

Last weekend, the Huskers came together to pick up three separate sweeps. The Big Red faced the Colorado State Rams in the home opener on Feb. 2 and pulled off a swift 7-0 win to notch its first victory of the season. Evening Nebraska’s season record out at 2-2 was a quick victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 4. The Eagles put up a good fight, but the Huskers claimed a 4-0 win. Nebraska made it three straight sweeps with a 6-0 win over the South Dakota Coyotes. With the three-match winning streak, the Huskers bring a 3-2 overall record into Saturday's doubleheader.

SIUE visits Nebraska with an 0-3 record after suffering a 7-0 loss at home against IUPUI on Jan. 26 and two road losses to Missouri State (7-0) and Northern Illinois (6-0). The Cougars currently lead the all-time series record over Nebraska 4-1. This is the first time Nebraska has faced SIUE since the Cougars rejoined NCAA Division I in 2012-13.

After a short break following its match against SIUE, Nebraska is set to duel with North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks visit the Dillon Tennis Center with a 1-3 season record. North Dakota saw losses to conference opponent Sacramento State (5-2), as well as Creighton (5-2) and Drake (6-1) before picking up a close 4-3 win against Omaha on Feb. 4. The Huskers lead the all-time series record over North Dakota 2-0, after securing a 7-0 sweep last season. Returners Vasanti Shinde, Claire Reifeis, Katerina Matysova, M’Balia Bangoura, Hayley Haakenstad and former Husker Mary Hanna all pocketed wins against the team.
