The Nebraska swimming and diving team travels to Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, Feb. 14, to compete in the 2018 Big Ten Championships. The event, featuring 11 sessions over four days, will be held at Ohio State University’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
The opening session is set for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. (CT), while the following three days will have preliminary sessions at 10 a.m., with finals following at 5:30 p.m. The diving preliminary rounds and consolation finals will begin at Noon on the final three days of the meet.
Nebraska will aim to improve on last season's 10th-place finish at the conference meet. The Huskers will look to returning top-24 finishers Jordan Ehly, Kaylyn Flatt, Jacqueline Jeschke, Abigail Knapton, Anna McDonald, Dana Posthuma and Katrina Voge to help continue the program's upward climb. At last season’s meet, the Huskers racked up seven top-16 finishes and 12 top-24 performances.
Ehly, freshman Autumn Haebig, sophomore Tori Beeler and sophomore Gwen Worlton were named Nebraska Impact Athletes by SwimSwam. Ehly, Beeler and Worlton all rank in the Big Ten’s top 12 this year, with Ehly ranked at 7th. Haebig contributed to the program immediately and could earn a shot at a 500 free A final appearance at Big Tens.
Ohio State University’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion has played host to six Big Ten Championships, including the women’s meet in 2006, 2008 and 2015. After 10 years, the facility will also host its second NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships this year. In 2017, the Aquatic Pavilion was also the host to Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, USA Swimming Winter Nationals, USA Synchronized Swimming Collegiate Nationals, USA Swimming Speedo Sectionals and USA Diving Summer Nationals.
The Big Ten Championships will see two NU seniors, Jordan Ehly and Katt Sickle competing together in their last conference meet. The pair has contributed 20 dual-meet victories, amassing 74 top-five finishes and 52 individual event titles over their careers.
The Big Ten Championships will be streamed live via BTN Plus on BTN2Go. The Big Ten Network will also televise Saturday's finals Sunday, Feb 18 at 9:30 a.m. (CT). Complimentary access to BTN2Go is available to viewers connected to the internet network of a Big Ten university. Fans elsewhere can sign up for the pay-per-view webcasts.
