2017 Game Program Senior Feature: Matt Watts

Matt Watts came to Nebraska after spending two seasons at Butte College in Oroville, Calif. Butte is known as one of the top junior colleges in the country, producing NFL stars such as Larry Allen, Alex Green, Aaron Rodgers and Junior Siavii.

“Both academically and athletically, Butte was a good school,” Watts said. “It has a good football team. It was a really good place to learn and develop because it is one of the best junior college football programs out there. And academically, it was a good school too.”

Watts says he is thankful for the time he spent at Butte, but that there is nothing better than being a Husker, because Nebraska has always had a special place in his heart.

“My dad grew up in Omaha and we would come back here for Thanksgiving,” Watts said.

Having had grown up a Nebraska fan, being a Husker means being able to live out his childhood dream.

Watts says he is extremely happy looking back on his decision to transfer, not only because he was able to be a part of a Big Ten football program but because of the one-of-a-kind support he has felt from Husker fans, which is his favorite part about being a Husker.

“The fans really love us,” he said.

His favorite memory as a Husker is the Oregon game last year when the Huskers beat the Ducks 35-32 in the final minutes.

After graduating, Watts plans to move back to California for work, but he knows that his Husker experience and the relationships and bonds created with his teammates will last a lifetime.
