Huskers Defeat Michigan in Final Day of East & West

MADISON, Wis. – The Nebraska women’s golf team defeated Michigan to finish in seventh place at the East & West Match Play Challenge at University Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday.

Audrey Judd, a senior from Olathe, Kan., defeated Big Ten opponent Elodie Van Dievoet in a nearly-even match-up to secure the victory for the Huskers. Annie Sritragul and Kate Smith also earned wins on the day.

Smith, a sophomore from Detroit Lakes, Minn., defeated Michigan’s Ashley Kim 3&2 three-up on the 16th hole of the match. Smith led for 14 holes on the day.

Sritragul, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand, defeated Alisa Snyder on Tuesday after falling in a marathon 27-hole matchup on Monday. Sritragul and Snyder nearly faced another all-square extra-holes situation during the last nine holes, until Sritragul got three-up on Snyder and finished play 3&1 on their 17th hole of the day.

True freshman Noor Ahmed fell 3&1 to Michigan’s Emily White, while sophomore Haley Thiele fell to Megan Kim 3&2. Individually, freshman Hannah Thiele competed outside of NU's lineup against Wisconsin's Mackenzie Hahn. Hannah Thiele fell to Hahn in 21 holes. 

Judd’s victory determined Nebraska’s team victory and ultimate seventh place finish in the consolation bracket. Complete results can be found on Huskers.com.

The Huskers return home to host the annual Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. on Oct. 1-3.
