Wide Receiver/Returner De'Mornay Pierson-El
On Tanner Lee’s leadership
“He came in willing to do whatever for the team and do his job and his part in everything and I think everybody just gravitated to that. For the most part, he did what was asked of him, as everybody, he’s just one of the guys you gravitate towards for the most part.”

On his opportunity in the offense

“Looking forward to this year, it’s another start of football that’s what it means to me is just planning and just getting out there, playing with the ‘N’ on my helmet for the most part. It’s an exciting year, it’s a big year, a lot of people have gone and it’s time for people to step up.”

On being a veteran receiver with a new quarterback

“It’s a typical new quarterback thing for the most part, you know what I mean? We really just have to build chemistry for the most part. They are two different guys, two different styles. But I mean there is still an adaptation to it, it still takes time. You just have to work those long hours on the field to build that bond and combination, and knowing that we will have each other’s backs. It is just about building that for the most part. “

On Riley’s comment that Scott Booker has brought a lot of energy to special teams

“Absolutely, I think that if you are out there period and you catch him in one of the special team’s periods, I mean you can see it. But, I mean he brings a lot of energy to the field whether that is with the defense or the special teams, either or, that’s just the kind of guy he is.”

On how much of an emphasis is being placed on clean catches with opportunities since his freshman year

“I think that is something that is going to come with time and come with Coach Booker’s scheme for the most part. It is just getting after it for the most part, you have to want to be on special teams and I think that he has a group of guys out there who want to be on there and just everybody has to do their jobs and we will see what happens.”

On Coach Riley’s comment that fall camp has been healthy

“There are not too many off the field issues, for the most part, not too many injuries. For the most part I think everybody has been taken care of, body-wise. It has kind of been smooth, easy coasting, easy sailing. Everybody showed up to work willing to do whatever they had to do to make things right.”

On if there is more urgency to get things done because it is his senior year

“No, not at all. It comes and goes, you know what is coming. But, you just enjoy your time and do what you can for the most part. Just go out there and have fun.”

On his health

“If I had a dollar for every time I got asked that, I would be a rich man. But, I feel fine, I feel great. My body is feeling the best it has felt in a while. I am just out there ready to compete and just go out for the most part. “

On how the younger players are stepping up

“From the defense as a whole, I have seen everybody step up for the most part, just not the corners. But, they have it on their minds and it is something that they know they have to do. They are perfecting their craft each and every day - asking questions of their coaches, going through scenarios. We go through scenarios with each other, just how to defeat a cornerback better. They ask how to stop a wide receiver for the most part. So we kind of just feed off each other. But I mean they are getting after it, they are working on their craft and doing the best that they can.”

On his opinion of the defense

“I think a lot of people will be shocked. The defense is difficult. We have had rough times with it in fall camp. It is annoying but I think people will be shocked about what they can actually do. I am actually excited for them because I think it will be fun to watch them do what they do best.”

On what he is expecting from Arkansas State

“They press pretty much the whole game so obviously they have tremendous trust in their corners. Their defensive unit together and how they thrive and get after people. Obviously they rely on their D-line heavily for them to stay in pressed the whole game. Pretty much they are just a really together unit and they get after it. They are going to come with their best shot and that’s all you can really ask for.”

On being an all-purpose wide-out and how it describes his game

“I guess you could say that, I mean I don’t pay attention to it. It’s something everybody else says, I just focus on playing the game.”

On how a dynamic offense helps the defense be prepared

“Our offense is a lot of shifts, motions, and certain pass routes. We can pretty much do whatever and it is a lot and it requires a defense to be under stress in certain areas, like in the field. I mean, they see a lot at practice and we practice certain stuff that they kind of get good at that they maybe thought was a weakness or something that they had seen throughout fall camp. We give them a look that they can probably see a little bit of everything in at practice.”

On the pace of Tanner Lee's release

“We had seen a pretty similar release with Ryker (Fyfe). I mean Ryker has a pretty quick release and it’s pretty close to that. So it is something that we have had time since the spring to get used to so I’m used to it now.”
