Lincoln – The Nebraska women’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 40 Northwestern on Friday at the Dillon Tennis Center.
With the setback, the Huskers slipped to 16-3 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten.
Doubles action started the afternoon on three of the 12 outdoor courts at the Dillon Tennis Center, where the Huskers battled a talented set of Wildcat duos.
First to finish doubles action was the Husker pair of Lisa Andersson and Vasanti Shinde, who fell 6-1 to their Northwestern counterparts Erin Larner and Brooke Rischbieth at the No. 2 spot.
Second to succumb to the nationally ranked Wildcats was Husker freshman tandem of Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad. The Huskers suffered a 6-2 loss to Jillian Rooney and Lee Or at No. 3, the secure the team doubles point for the Wildcats.
As the focus shifted to singles play, Larner knocked off Shinde, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 1 singles position to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
Nebraska sophomore Paula Del Cueto Castillo fell 6-1, 6-2 to Northwestern's Rheeya Doshi at the No. 3 position, before lost 6-3, 6-2 to Rischbieth at No. 6 singles to give the Wildcats the 4-0 team win.
Although the remainder of the singles matches went unfinished, Reifeis (No. 2) and Andersson (No. 5) earned first-set wins for the Huskers.
