Nebraska will be represented at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine by tight end Cethan Carter and safety Nathan Gerry. The Husker standouts will be taking part in on-field drills, interviews with teams, physical measurments and medical examinations over the next few days.
A four-year letterwinner at tight end, Carter will be the first of the two to go through the Combine schedule. Carter arrived in Indianapolis on Wednesday and takes part in measurments, medical examinations and interviews on Thursday. Friday will see Carter go through more interviews with teams, media interviews and the bench press. Carter will then take part in on-field drills, including timing and position specific drills on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
A three-time All-Big Ten performer, Gerry arrives in Indianapolis two days later, but will follow a similar schedule. Gerry and the other defensive backs will go through medical exams and interviews on Saturday, before more interviews, media sessions and the bench press on Sunday. Gerry's time in Indianapolis will conclude with on-field drills and skill work on Monday.
The 6-4, 240-pound Carter provided an athletic and rangy target in the passing game. Carter battled injuries in his final season with the Huskers, but was once again one of the Big Ten's top tight ends. Carter finished his Nebraska career with 59 receptions to rank fifth all-time among Nebraska tight ends. Carter also made great strides in his blocking throughout his time in a Nebraska uniform and became a powerful perimeter blocker in his final two seasons.
Gerry was a fixture on the Blackshirt defense for four seasons. The South Dakota native ranked in the top two for the Blackshirt defense in both tackles and interceptions for three consecutive seasons. In the process, the 6-2, 220-pound Gerry was also an all-conference honoree for his final three seasons, while serving as a team captain in both 2015 and 2016.
Gerry was the prototypical safety with an excellent blend of coverage skills and ability to support the run. He finished his career with 273 tackles to rank second among NU defensive backs and sixth overall in tackles. He had at least four interceptions in each of his final three seasons and his 13 career interceptions were tied for second in Husker history, just one off the school record.
Coverage of the NFL Combine will be available throughout the weekend on the NFL Network and NFL.com. Coverage will begin at 8 a.m. CT on NFL Network on Friday, March 3 through Monday, March 6.
