Murray, Ky. --- The Nebraska rifle team defeated two teams to take second at the NCAA qualifiers this weekend in the competition hosted by Murray St. Murray St. led the way with a score of 4,702. Nebraska followed with 4,666, Memphis scored 4,641, and UT Martin rounded out the field with a score of 3,459.
Samantha Peterson led the way for Nebraska in smallbore, firing a 585. Dacotah Faught wasn’t far behind with a 578, while Kayla Gadeken and Nina Radulovic scored 575 each. Jaycee Carter was also in the mix with a 574, and Rachel Yager fired a 573. The Huskers posted a total smallbore score of 2,312.
The team improved when it came time for air rifle, led by a team-high 595 from Dacotah Faught and a 592 from Rachel Martin. Jaycee Carter fired a 584 and Samantha Petersen fired a 583, with Rachel Yager posting a 581 and Sarah Sutton scoring 579. The Huskers scored a total air rifle score of 2,354.
Meike Drewell of Murray St. led the way in smallbore competition with a 587, while teammate Mackenzie Martin came in first in air rifle with a score of 596.
The top 8 teams that qualify for the 2017 NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, March 10-11 will be announced on the NCAA Rifle Selection Show on Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. The show will be live streamed on NCAA.com.
