Huskers Take Down Drake 4-0

Lincoln, Neb. --- The Nebraska women's tennis team welcomed the Drake Bulldogs to the Dillon Tennis Center on Friday. The Huskers gained their eighth straight victory with a 4-0 win against the Bulldogs.

The match opened up with doubles play, which saw the Big Red coming away with the doubles point to open the match 1-0.

First to complete their doubles match and give the Huskers an edge, freshman duo Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad pulled a win over Kenya Williams and Alex Kozlowski 6-0 at the No.2 doubles position. Senior Mary Hanna and sophomore Paula Del Cueto Castillo secured the team point for Nebraska with the defeat of Joely Lomas and Summer Brills of the Bulldogs at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo secured the doubles point with a 6-2 final score.  

Action picked up again for the Huskers in singles play. Freshman Jeannie Lozowski swept Drake opponent Alex Kozlowski at the No. 6 spot 6-0, 6-0. This put the Big Red farther ahead in the dual, sitting at 2-0. 

Picking up an additional win for the evening, Hanna picked off the Bulldogs Williams at the No. 3 spot. The Nebraska team captain gained the win with a well-fought 6-1, 6-0 final score.

To close out the match for Nebraska, senior Lisa Andersson earned another win on the spring season. The Varberg, Sweden native defeated Mela Jaglarz of Drake in a stunning 6-3, 6-1 match at the No. 5 singles. The Nebraska versus Drake dual was called at 4-0, the Huskers taking home the win to advance on the season 8-0. 

The Big Red will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. as it takes on the Colorado State Rams at the Dillon Tennis Center. Admission is free. After the conclusion of tennis play this weekend, Nebraska hits the road for its first conference match of the season. The Huskers will face Rutgers University on Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Piscataway, N.J..
