Huskers Soar Past Bluejays, 7-0

Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's tennis team welcomed the Creighton Bluejays to the Dillon Tennis Center on Sunday. Battling the Bluejays for the 29th time in school history, the Huskers advanced to 7-0 on the season after a 7-0 final score.

First in doubles action at the No.1 position, Mary Hanna and Paula Del Cueto Castillo swept Creighton's Ashley Ishimura and Darby Rosette in a dominating 6-0 set. Not long after, No.3 doubles pair Katerina Matysova and Jeannie Lozowski earned a 6-1 victory over Michaela Henne and Kendra Lavallee to put the Big Red up 1-0. 

Hanna and Lozowski both picked up additional wins during singles competition to bring the Huskers lead to 3-0. Hanna claimed her second win of the afternoon in a stellar singles match against Hylan Miller. The senior captured a 6-0, 6-1 victory to advance the Huskers again to 2-0. Lozowski faced off against Henne, emerging with the win via a 6-4, 6-3 final score.

In her first match of the spring season, sophomore Sydney Harlow knocked off Kendra Lavallee in No. 6 singles. The Omaha, Neb. native pulled a 6-2, 6-2 victory to help clinch the win for Nebraska. 

Competition continued with another Husker victory. Claire Reifeis earned a win at the No. 1 singles over Creighton's Ishimura. The 6-3, 6-2 final score propelled the freshman to her sixth win on the season, the second at the No. 1 singles position. 

Finishing out the afternoon, Hayley Haakenstad and Lisa Andersson both picked up singles matches, finishing out the 7-0 sweep of in-state rival Creighton. Haakenstad punched a 6-3, 6-3 win over Claire Embree in just over an one hour and 13 minutes. Andersson then earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Rosette. This was the senior's third singles win of the season. 

The Nebraska women's tennis team will be back in action next weekend when they take on Drake (Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.) and Colorado State (Sunday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m.), before hitting the road to begin conference tennis play against Rutgers on Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. Fans can stay up to date by catching recaps on Huskers.com or by following the Huksers women's tennis team @HuskersWTennis on Twitter.
