Eugene, Ore. --- The Nebraska men's tennis team started their weekend road trip in Oregon late Friday night with a match against the host team. The Huskers put up a fight against the 5-1 Ducks, but fell 7-0.
In doubles, David Samardzija and Tomislav Antoljak played against No. 33 Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent where the duo fell 6-2. Chris Dean and Micah Klousia put up a fight against Simon Stevens and Ty Gentry but unfortunately lost 6-4. Toby Boyer and Dylan Bednarczyk played No. 51 Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno and were unable to finish their match.
In singles, David Samardzija played Ty Gentry and finished his match first, with a score favoring Oregon, 6-0, 6-1. Tomislav Antoljak played Jayson Amos and was defeated 6-3, 6-2. Toby Boyer and Simon Stevens finished third. The match favored Stevens 6-2, 6-3. In the No. 1 seed, Dylan Bednarczyk put up a fight against Thomas Laurent to fall 6-2, 6-2. Micah Klousia and Chris Dean were the last singles matches to finish up and both Huskers fell to Oregon.
Although the Huskers took the loss, Coach Kerry McDermott is hopeful for future matches with this team.
"Oregon played a very good match and [I] feel that we didn't play very bad but they just were better at every position today," Coach McDermott said.
The Huskers are back in action tonight against Fresno State in Eugene, Oregon. The competition is set to begin at 5 p.m.
