Huskers Net Eagles, 6-1

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska women's tennis team dualed the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Friday at the Dillon Tennis Center. In the sixth home match of the season, the Big Red finished the evening with a 6-1, improving its record to 6-0 on the season. 

Doubles competition started out the evening for the Huskers, with an experienced lineup providing solid leadership on the court. Leading the charge for Nebraska was Lisa Andersson and Hayley Haakenstad, who battled at the No. 3 doubles spot. They claimed a 6-4 win over Marie Mayerova and Andrea Martinovska.

Also claiming a win for the Huskers was Claire Reifeis and Vasanti Shinde, they coasted to a 6-2 set. The duo's second doubles win at the No. 2 spot this season.  

Junior Katerina Matysova led single action early on in the evening, making quick work of her first set against Maria Paula Ribero at the No. 4 singles spot. Matysova followed shortly after with another quick set to finish second for the Huskers. With a 6-1, 6-0 final score, Matysova helped bring the team score to 3-0. 

Mary Hanna, a senior, earned a hard fought 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No.6 singles spot over Aljandra Barcelo. Hanna's fifth singles win of the season. 

Claiming her second win of the dual, Del Cueto Castillo punched a tough 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Martinovska. Del Ceuto Castillo picked off her Eagle opponent by earning a point via a 7-1 tie-breaker set.

Bringing the Huskers to 6-0, Reifeis earned the last win for Nebraska. The freshman battled through two tough tie-break sets over Ani Gogvadze. Ending both sets 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), Reifeis earned the win. Also going into tie-break sets, Shinde fell to her Eagles opponent in super-tiebreak, her match ending 6-4, 4-6, 7-10.
