Lincoln - The Nebraska women's tennis team hosted both the Wyoming Cowgirls and the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Saturday at the Dillon Tennis Center, defeating both opponents to finish the weekend undefeated and improve to 5-0 on the season.
The morning started with the match against Wyoming, which saw Nebraska come away with a 6-1 victory. After a close contest last season in Lincoln, the Huskers were able to finish the first match of the day behind strong performances by freshman Claire Reifeis and sophomore Vasanti Shinde. The pair teamed up in doubles to defeat Dorottya Jonas and Ana Tkachenko, 6-0, at the No. 2 spot. Reifeis would later defeat Milka Genkova at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, while Shinde gained a win against Jonas at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2.
Katerina Matysova also contributed two wins against the Cowgirls, teaming with Hayley Haakenstad to beat Imogen Clews and Genkova, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles to earn the doubles point for the Big Red. Matysova then defeated Tkachenko (6-1, 5-7, 6-3) in singles play, while Lisa Andersson defeated Elisa Koonik (7-6, 7-5) and Mary Hanna gained a win against Imogen Clews 6-0, 6-2.
In the second match of the day, the Big Red swept the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, 7-0. Hanna and Shinde defeated Faith Lee and Mimi Yunker at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Shinde went on to pick up a win against Ella Hassall 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Hanna defeated Lee at the No. 4 singles spot 6-2, 6-2. Reifeis and Haakenstad also notched two wins against North Dakota, teaming up to defeat Sophie Allen-Fisher and Preethi Kasilingam 6-2 in No. 2 doubles. Reifeifs finished her day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Allen-Fisher at No. 2 singles, while Haakenstad posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alex Revenig at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore Paula Del Cueto Castillo and freshman M’ Balia Bangoura added a doubles victory over Alysse Nakasato and Revenig, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot. Bangoura went on to defeat Kasilingam 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. Matysova added a 6-1, 6-1 win over Yunker at the No. 3 spot.
