Huskers Sign Top 100 Tennis Recruit

Lincoln - The Nebraska men's tennis team has added an accomplished junior player to its 2017-18 roster with the signing of William Grattan-Smith to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period.

Grattan-Smith, who is ranked No. 92 nationally by tennisrecruiting.com, is a four-star recruit from Atlanta. He is on track to continue climbing in the national rankings through his senior season at Atlanta National School, where he has played out of the No. 1 singles position throughout his prep career.

Grattan-Smith reached the fifth round of the 2015 Kalamazoo USTA tournament, which featured more than 400 of the top juniors in the United States. Grattan-Smith has competed against several five-star players and blue chips, a term used to describe the top-25 players in this year's recruiting classes.

"William comes to us with sound fundamentals and mental toughness that should contribute to making our team stronger in the Big Ten," Nebraska Associate Coach Fungai Tongoona said. "He also has the height and the size needed to compete in a tough indoor conference schedule. He is also a very good doubles player."

Nebraska opens its 2017 spring campaign against Omaha at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Jan. 21.
