Huskers Add Talented Croatian Kesina

Lincoln - The Nebraska men's tennis program will add a new member to its roster in January for the 2017 spring season, as Filip Kesina will join the Huskers as a freshman from Croatia.

Kesina will be the third Croatian on the 2017 Nebraska roster, joining sophomore Tomislav Antoljak and freshman David Samardzija. Kesina has been one of the top players in the Croatian National Team program since beginning competition with the U12 National Team. He continued to be a top-three player with the U14, U16 and currently the U18 national teams for Croatia. Kesina also has won multiple International Tennis Federation tournaments.

"Filip is a welcome addition to our team as he will bring good experience, and he the type of player we are looking for to build our team within the Big Ten Conference and nationally," Nebraska Head Coach Kerry McDermott said. "We are delighted to have him join our squad, and I have no doubt that he will make great strides in our program."

Kesina is also eager to begin his collegiate career as a Husker.

"I chose Nebraska because of the great tennis team and great coaches," Kesina said. "I  believe that I will reach my potential as a Husker and become a pro tennis player one day."

The Huskers start their spring season against Omaha at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on Jan. 21.
