Huskers Strong on First Day of KAT Klash

Houston – The top-ranked Nebraska bowling team put forth a dominant effort during the first day of competition at the KAT Klash, rolling to a 5-0 record and a 6,134 total pinfall on Friday, good for first place overall in the tournament at Emerald Lanes in Houston, Texas. 

Each of the five teams the Cornhuskers defeated Friday were ranked in the top 25, including three teams ranked in the top 10. NU fired a pinfall above 1,000 in three of the six five-game Baker format matches (one bye). Arkansas State sits in second place overall with a pinfall of 5,934, while Central Missouri is third with a pinfall of 5,921. 

The Huskers began the day with a bye, scoring a 958, before emerging victorious in a close match with hosts Sam Houston State. The Huskers defeated the sixth-ranked Bearkats by a score of 997-986.

In the next match, NU defeated No. 22 Prairie View A&M, 1,036-1,009, before rolling past No. 18 Tulane, 988-844.

The Huskers took down third-ranked Arkansas State by a score of 1,119-952 and closed the day with a victory over No. 7 Central Missouri in a high-scoring match, 1,036-1,000. 

The Huskers will return to action Saturday morning with five traditional matches slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday's combined results will determine the seeding for Sunday's bracket-play championship tournament, in which each team will play three rounds of best-of-seven Baker matches, beginning at 8:20 a.m. A live stream featuring matches on lanes 5-6 is available here
