Huskers Jump Nine Spots in CollegeSwimming.com Rankings

Lincoln-- The Nebraska swimming and diving team continued to surge in the national rankings again this week, surging nine spots to No. 41 in the CollegeSwimming.com rankings on Nov. 22.

Head Coach Pablo Morales led the Huskers to their second straight team title at the six-team Kansas Classic over the weekend to remain undefeated on the season, including 4-0 in dual action.

Erin Oeltjen powered the Huskers to victory by producing eight top-five finishes in Kansas. The senior captain from Omaha shattered the school record in the 200-yard backstroke and set the Kansas Classic meet record with a 1:56.12. Oeltjen added another career best in the 100 yard backstroke (54.66), while producing NCAA B cuts in both events. 

Tori Beeler, a freshman from Parkville, Mo., added a big meet for the Big Red with five top-three finishes to claim Kansas Classic Swimmer-of-the-Meet honors. Beeler produced NCAA B cuts in 200 IM (2:01.44), the 100 breast (1:01.23) and the 200 breast (2:15.13) to notch career bests in all three events. Junior Jordan Ehly added career bests of her own to secure NCAA B standards in the 100 breast (1:02.34) and the 200 breast (2:13.92), while sophomore Dana Posthuma contributed NCAA B cuts in the 100 (54.29) and 200 (1:59.50) butterfly events.

Anna McDonald rounded out the list of NCAA B cuts produced by the Huskers in Kansas with her career-best time of 2:01.41 in the 200 IM.

In addition to the NCAA standards met through November in the pool, the Husker divers have continued to produce NCAA Zone-qualifying standards in the well. All-American Anna Filipcic has already set Devaney Natatorium records early this season in both the one- and three-meter dives. The senior from Omaha erupted for 372.30 in the three-meter event in a dual win over Kansas to shatter Nebraska's overall school record in the event.

True freshman Abigail Knapton became the first Husker to qualify for NCAA zones in all three diving events. Knapton, a native of Omaha, met NCAA qualifying standards in the one- and three-meter boards in her first competition of her collegiate career at Iowa State, and she has continued to improve. She also became the first Husker to meet the qualifying standard in the platform over the weekend with her runner-up finish at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia. Sophomore Katrina Voge has also met the NCAA standard in the one-meter competition.

The swimmers will continue training but will not be back in action until Senior Day against Omaha at the Devaney Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 14. The meet with the Mavericks will start at 11 a.m. The Husker divers will be back in action at the Jean Freeman Invitational in Minneapolis, Dec. 2-3 at 10 a.m.
