Kearney, Neb. – Taylor Venz (unattached) went 3-0 at the UNK Holiday Inn Open en route to the 184-pound title (Elite Division) at Buffalo County Fair Grounds on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Venz, who had one pin and one technical fall, was one of six Huskers to earn podium spots at the tournament. Mitchell Maginnis (125) and Brian Peska (133) each took runner-up honors in Kearney.
At 165 pounds, Regan Bye and Johnny Blankenship (unattached) tied for third after each compiling 4-1 marks. Eric Schultz (197 – unattached) finished third, reeling off five consecutive wins after losing his first match.
Dalton Peters (165 – unattached) and Cade Svoboda (184 – unattached), each wrestling in the Amateur Division, also competed at the UNK Holiday Inn Open. Peters and Svoboda each posted 4-2 records.
