Lincoln - Coach Mike Riley and members of the No. 19 Nebraska football team met the media Monday at Memorial Stadium to discuss Saturday's home game with Maryland.
Kick-off between the Huskers (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten) and the Terrapins (5-5, 2-5 Big Ten) is set for Saturday at 11 a.m., with a live telecast on ESPNews.
Saturday's game will mark the first-ever meeting between Nebraska and Maryland in college football. The Terps joined the Big Ten Conference prior to the 2015 season, while the Huskers joined the Big Ten for the 2011 campaign.
Saturday's contest will also be Senior Day at Memorial Stadium, and the Huskers will honor 30 seniors who have helped the resurgent Big Red stay in the hunt for a Big Ten West Division title. A win would give Nebraska its 50th nine-win season in school history and 47th since 1962 (Bob Devaney's first season at NU). No other football program in the nation has more than 32 nine-win seasons in that 55-year span. A win would also give the Huskers the 43rd perfect home season in school history, including their 28th since Memorial Stadium opened in 1923. It would be just the second perfect home season for Nebraska in the last 15 years.
The Huskers are coming off a solid 24-17 win over Big Ten West contender Minnesota on Saturday. Senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. led Nebraska with 278 yards of total offense, including the game-winning touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter to cap a comeback from a 17-10 halftime deficit. Armstrong also threw a pair of touchdown passes to tie Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch for the school record of 90 total touchdowns in a career.
First-year coach DJ Durkin has the Terrapins in the hunt for bowl eligibility in 2016. Maryland opened the season with a 4-0 record that included a 50-7 win over Purdue. Since then, the Terps have lost five of their last six games with their lone victory coming in a 28-17 win over Michigan State. The game with Nebraska will be Maryland's third straight against a top-25 opponent, after suffering a 59-3 loss at No. 2 Michigan and a 62-3 loss at home against No. 6 Ohio State on Saturday.
