Senior, Center
On the season
“It’s kind of the grind of the season. We got two more games left of the regular season. If you’re not beat up some way or another, you’re probably not playing football.”
What Saturday’s senior night means to him
“It’ll be a bittersweet feeling. We put a lot of hard work in this place and a lot of guys have played a lot of snaps here. It’s going to be special. And with old’ Foltzie [Sam Foltz] not being there too, it just adds to the emotion that happens on a senior day. The most important thing is leaving this stadium with a win and going undefeated at home as a senior.”
On the senior walk-on group
“We never really saw ourselves as that much different than the scholarship guys, other than just getting our school payed for. The special thing about Nebraska is you’re never out of the loop, and you got treated as a walk-on and you’re in there just grinding, working the same. The same type of information as scholarship guys, so there's nothing holding you back.”
On sophomore offensive lineman Jerald Foster’s return to the field
“Even right after surgery, Jerald told me he’d be back this season regardless of the fact that he hadn’t done a single day of rehab yet. It shows just what kind of confident guy he is. Specimens like him don’t come around so often. So when he told me he’d be back I really didn’t second guess it.”
On Saturday’s game against Minnesota
“We could always do better, that’s for sure. We did an all right job, good enough to win but it’s not going to be our best. So each week we go back to the drawing board and try to do our best each week.”
Going undefeated at home
“Playing at home, it’s a special feeling. We’ve been playing at a lot of great places, Memorial is still the best one I’ve been to. Just to give the fans what they want, a win. To keep them coming back for years on. Its special, Nebraska is a great place.”
On senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. return to the field
“If there’s one thing you can say about Tommy, it’s that he’s a tough kid and he’s going go out there and give it all. That’s why we respect him. He’s going to lay it all out on the line, and I was glad he was able to play last week and help us get the win.”
On the team playing through injuries
“That kind of shows the toughness of our team as a whole. A lot of guys are beat up but they do it for the team and that’s what keeps you going. You don’t want to let the guy to the left or right of you down.”
On senior I-Back Terrell Newby
“Terrell is a great kid, I love him. He’s always doing the right things. He’s quiet and he puts his head down. Even in the game, he doesn’t get too high or too low. (He’ll) score a touchdown and jog off the field like nothing happened. He’s a real humble kid and that’s why we respect him a lot.”
On what he wants the senior class to be remembered by
“I don’t know. We kind of what to be known as the guys who turned the program around from last year. We all talked over the summers and over the winter on how it would be up to us to pull the team together. And with Foltzie passing, we just wanted to jump start the legacy of Coach Riley here and everything that happens.”
