On Mike Riley on the team not going into the next game down on their spirits
“(We are) Not going to be hung up and be sad about it. The season is still right in front of us, nobodies’ dreams have been crushed.”
On going to Ohio State's stadium
“Another great chance to go to a stadium with a wild atmosphere and just prove that we can beat a top contender team.”
On playing Wisconsin and Ohio State back to back
“I thought it would be a pretty cool challenge. I like the way it kind of lined up in the air.”
On the last game against the Buckeyes
“I was a redshirt and on scout team. I watched from home.”
On the offensive execution
“I mean it’s exactly what coach told you. We did some things well. There’s still some things that we could’ve done that could’ve put us in better positions. It’s another chance to learn.”
On rushing for 150 yards against Wisconsin's defense
“Their run defense is one of the best in the nation, so being able to do what we did and have the success runing the ball that we did, it shows you no matter who is in front us, if we do the right thing, we can get the job done and move the ball.”
On seeing former Husker assistant coach Tim Beck
“You know I got to say 'hi' to (former Husker assistant coach) Ross Els against Purdue, so I think it will be cool. But you know we got to go down there for a business trip.”
On comparing preparations for Ohio State and Wisconsin
“They’re both really strong defenses either way. I feel like going into it, our focus is on us every time.”
On tight end Cethan Carter’s return
“Cethan is going to be back in the game for the first time since he first got hurt. I know for a fact he’s hungry to get out there again any way he can. I told him ‘We need you, we want you out there. Get better as fast as you can,’ and he’s doing everything he can. He’s in rehab everyday getting back, doing what he can and just pushing himself. I’m excited on what he’s going to do.”
On Josh Banderas and Nathan Gerry
“They’re just another example of how this senior class has been the heartbeat of the team. If things start going south on offense, you got Nate (Gerry), Bando (Josh Banderas), Mike Rose (Michael Rose-Ivey), Ross Dzuris. You've just got seniors that have been here for a long time out here making plays. And the opposite side of the ball needs someone on the defense to go out and do something.”
On whether it is the best senior class he has seen
“It is my senior class, so I’d like to say so. We’re just all brothers trying to go out there and do the same thing. We all want to see each other be successful. I think that the emotional support we show each other for the opposite guys on the field shows how close knit we are.”
On how his senior class got so close
“I’d say since being freshmen and redshirts that came in, this team has been through hell and back. I mean, Mike Rose says it all the time in the locker room ‘This team has been through too much to just show up at a place like Wisconsin and not give it our best efforts, a place like Ohio State and not give them 100 percent of what we've got. Just the past year, coming in with the new coach, going through so many close games and not quite getting it and finally playing our best football of the season against UCLA, and then going through a long winter, long spring and just getting better. Then going through the summer workouts and getting better, then losing Foltz (Sam Foltz). Then Jerald (Foster) getting hurt and just getting nicked up and getting tested throughout the year even during the offseason. It just shows how much this team has been through and the success we’ve had so far just shows that even if things are going to come at us, we're still going to fight, we're still a team that’s fighting every single down every single quarter.”
On Coach Riley’s love for the team
“Coming off of a coach, Coach Bo (Pelini), being a player’s coach who was always looking out for us as players and getting a new coach you sometimes don’t know if your coach is going to care for you the same way the other coach did. Having a coach like Coach Riley who makes you know that he cares for you and that he’s looking out for us past football, making sure we all graduate and become successful with or without football. And I think that’s shown because you get the effort you do out of the guys.”
