Oeltjen, Posthuma to Represent Huskers at USA College Challenge

Lincoln - Nebraska swimmers Erin Oeltjen and Dana Posthuma will represent the Huskers and the Big Ten Conference at the 2016 USA College Challenge in Bloomington, Ind., on Nov. 12-13.

The USA College Challenge is an opportunity for standout Big Ten student-athletes to compete against the USA Swimming National Team. Oeltjen and Posthuma will be swimming among the likes of Olympians Lilly King and Leah Smith as well as Buckeye Lindsey Clary and Wolverine Gabby DeLoof. The special event will be televised live from the Indiana University Natatorium by the Big Ten Network streamed live at BTN2Go.com. The event begins Saturday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m., and will continue on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 11:30 a.m.

Oeltjen and Posthuma, Husker swimmers from Omaha, Neb., are no strangers to U.S. National-level competition. Oeltjen competed during the summer of 2016 at the U.S. Olympic Trials (June 26-July 3) while Posthuma competed in the Omaha Cup, which served as a preview event for the Trials. Both events were held at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.

Oeltjen, a senior captain for the Big Red, set career bests at the 2016 Big Ten Championships in the 200 backstroke (1:57.46) and the 100 butterfly (54.42). The Millard West graduate competed in the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes at the Olympic Trials, June 26-July 3.

Posthuma, a sophomore, was a three-time high school All-American who set career-best times in the 100 fly (53.98), 200 fly (2:00.96) and 200 IM (2:03.38) at the 2016 Big Ten Championships. The Omaha Burke graduate was a two-time Nebraska state champion in the 100 butterfly and owns the state high school record in the event.

Oeltjen and Posthuma will join the Huskers in action this weekend at the Devaney Natatorium when Nebraska plays host to Kansas on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m.
