Six Huskers Earn All-Big Ten Honors

Senior forward Jaycie Johnson collected first-team honors to lead four Huskers who achieved All-Big Ten status and two All-Freshman Team members, when the Big Ten announced its honorees on Friday.

Seniors Caroline Flynn and Sydney Miramontez garnered second-team recognition, while junior Haley Hanson made the third team. The quartet of first-, second- and third-team members for Nebraska have accounted for 20 of NU’s 25 goals this season, led by Johnson’s 11 goals.

A pair of Huskers, forward Meg Brandt and defender Sinclaire Miramontez, made the All-Freshman Team. Brandt has started 16 of her 19 appearances, scoring two goals and adding three assists. Miramontez has started all 19 games, racking up nearly 1,800 minutes.

Junior Amanda McClanahan received the Sportsmanship Award. McClanahan has played in 15 games for the Huskers this season.

The 2016 honorees up Nebraska’s all-conference total to 88, including 18 since joining the Big Ten in 2011. The six all-conference team members are the most since joining the conference, and the most in a season since 2000, when eight Huskers were honored.

The Huskers (11-5-3, 5-3-3 Big Ten) face No. 20 Northwestern in the Big Ten Quarterfinals on Sunday, starting at 3 p.m. (CT), in Evanston, Ill. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.
