Johnson, Turney Spark 2-1 Win Over Billikens

Lincoln, Neb. – After a scoreless first half, the Nebraska soccer team (5-1-0) struck twice in a span of two minutes en route to a 2-1 triumph over previously unbeaten Saint Louis at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Sunday night. Nebraska’s 5-1-0 start marks its best through six games since 2010.

Senior Jaycie Johnson put the Huskers on the board in the 62nd minute with a header off Sydney Miramontez’s corner kick. The goal marked Johnson’s first of the season and 32nd of her collegiate career. She led the Nebraska offense with six shots, two of which were on goal, in 87 minutes of play.

Junior Nikki Turney launched one from 30 yards out into the back of the net in the 64th minute. It marked the first score of Turney’s career at Nebraska and gave the Huskers a 2-0 edge.

The Huskers outshot the Billikens by a 10-5 margin, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. NU took eight corner kicks compared to SLU’s two. The lone score for Saint Louis came in the 78th minute when Kirsten Clemens knocked it in from short range off an assist from Lauren Tondl.

The Huskers close out their non-conference slate next weekend with a pair of matches. Nebraska hosts Dayton on Friday at Hibner Stadium, starting at 7:05 p.m. (CT), on BTN Plus. On Sunday, NU visits Clemson for an 11 a.m. (CT) kick on WatchESPN.
