Lincoln - Kate Smith managed a 74 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round total of 221 to tie for eighth individually at the Nebraska women's golf team's Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course.
Smith, a freshman from Detroit Lakes, Minn., closed the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 221 (77-70-74) to lead Nebraska to a tie for fourth (314-293-299-906) in the 11-team tournament field on the par-72, 6,276-yard layout at Wilderness Ridge. It was Smith's third consecutive top-15 finish to open her young career at Nebraska.
Smith wasn't the only Husker freshman to produce impressive results on Tuesday. Claire Robertson, a freshman from Carnoustie, Scotland, fired a career-best two-under-par 70 while playing as an individual outside of Nebraska's lineup in the final round.
Robertson's round tied for the fourth-best round of the day in the 65-player field, trailing only a 68 by tournament individual medalist Hallie Getz from South Dakota State and Brenna Lervick from South Dakota, along with a 69 from tournament runner-up Camila Serrano from Florida International. Lervick finished in a five-way tie with Kate Smith, North Dakota State's Natalie Roth, Wyoming's Sarah Hankins and FIU's Katerina Krasova in eighth place for the tournament.
Robertson finished in a tie for 31st overall, but her scores did not count toward Nebraska's team score. Fellow freshman Jessica Haraden from Thousand Oaks, Calif., added a career best of her own with a 73 on Tuesday. She tied for 51st while playing as an individual outside the NU lineup.
Junior Audrey Judd added a solid 73 of her own for the second straight day to produce Nebraska's No. 2 finish in the tournament. The Olathe, Kan., native tied for 16th overall at 225 (79-73-73).
Nebraska's lone senior Sarah Pravecek (Omaha, Neb.) added a 74 for the second straight day to tie for 29th overall at 231 (83-74-74).
Freshman Annie Sritragul (Bangkok, Thailand) notched Nebraska's fourth score of the round with a 78 to close in a tie for 43rd at 238 (81-79-78). Junior Emily Gillman (Austin, Texas) completed the Nebraska contingent in 39th at 236 (77-76-83).
As a team, Nebraska tied Wyoming for fourth with a three-round total of 906 (314-293-299). The Cowgirls fired a 292 on Tuesday.
Kansas State closed out the tournament title by producing the best round of the day with a 285. The Wildcats placed three golfers in the top five, led by Paige Nelson (3rd, 74-73-71-218), Madison Talley (T4th, 73-76-70-219) and Chloe Weir (T4th, 71-76-72-219). Connie Jaffrey provided the Cats with their fourth score of the day on Tuesday with a 72 to finish 13th at 222 (74-76-72).
Led by tournament individual champion Hallie Getz (74-71-68-213), South Dakota State finished second at 883 (303-292-288) five strokes behind Kansas State. FIU took third at 893 (302-295-296).
The Huskers return to action at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Denver, Colo., Oct. 7-9.
