Former Husker All-Americans Tatum and Taylor Edwards were crowned National Pro Fastpitch champions for the second straight season on Tuesday night after leading the Chicago Bandits to a 2-1 win over the USSSA Pride. The Bandits rallied from an 0-1 deficit to win the final two games of the best-of-three series against the Pride in a rematch of the 2015 championship series.
Taylor Edwards started all three games for the Bandits and had only two hits in the series, but both were timely. In game two on Monday, Edwards broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in an eventual 11-5 win. On Tuesday, the game was scoreless again until Edwards launched a solo home run in the third inning to plate the game's first run. Teammate Brittany Cervantes followed with another home run and Chicago held on for the 2-1 win.
The Edwards twins have now won a pair of NPF titles in their first three seasons in the league. At Nebraska, the two-time All-Americans helped the Huskers to two NCAA regional titles, one Big Ten championship and one trip to the Women's College World Series.
Chicago advanced to the championship series after defeating the Scrap Yard Dawgs, 2-1, in a best-of-three semifinal series. The Dawgs were led in that series by rookie Kiki Stokes, who capped her two-time All-America career at Nebraska this past spring. Stokes did everything she could to help the Dawgs advance, finishing 5-for-10 with a double, a triple, a home run and five RBIs in the series. In the Dawgs' lone victory, Stokes went 2-for-4 with a homer, a triple and five RBIs.
