Q&A with Emily Wood

Emily Wood is in her third season at Nebraska in 2016-17 and could play an expanded role for the Big Red as a junior. The 5-5 guard from Salina, Kan., came to Nebraska as a recruited walk-on before earning a scholarship midway through her freshman season. She is expected to be a contributor in the Husker backcourt, while continuing to be a leader on and off the court.

An outstanding student with strong leadership abilities, Wood was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and earned academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2016. She also claimed a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award before being one of 20 Huskers across all sports to participate in Nebraska's Service Trip Abroad to the Dominican Republic in May of 2016.

In the summer of 2015, Wood participated in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. She is a four-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for her commitment to community service.

Emily took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions to provide a little bit more insight about her life off the court.

Favorite TV show as a kid: Hannah Montana as a little kid and One Tree Hill in high school.
Favorite pro team: I don't watch a ton of professional sports, but I do like the San Antonio Spurs and the Seattle Seahawks. I enjoy organizations that "do it the right way."
Favorite sports movie: Miracle
Favorite meal: oatmeal and fresh fruit for breakfast, and grilled chicken and vegetables for lunch/dinner.
Favorite vegetable: Any.. I love veggies!
Favorite workout song: Anything by the Goo Goo Dolls, Maroon 5, or Train.
Favorite class you've taken: I haven't taken too many college classes yet, but I liked the food science class I took last summer.
What you would do with a time machine: I would probably go back in time to see my parents' high school or re-live a couple of my childhood family vacations.
Celebrity crush: Ryan Reynolds or James Lafferty
When you're not competing, you like to: watch other sports compete, read, or hang out with friends.
Superpower you wish you had: The ability to fly or be invisible.
Pregame rituals: Listen to music, get dressed, and have Jas Cincore do my hair. And during home games I always take the floor with 90 minutes until tip to start getting shots up.
Best friend on the team: I love everyone on the team.
Best athlete you've competed against:  I've played against a lot of great players, but the first that comes to mind is Jessica Shepard. A couple summers ago my club team played her team, and somehow I got switched on her for a defensive possession. Luckily they didn't throw it to her, but it was quite the mismatch. Made for some good pictures, too!
Why you chose Nebraska: I wanted the opportunity to be around the highest level of basketball and coaching. The academics and facilities are some of the best in the country, and I felt like it was exactly where God was calling me to be.
Best thing about Nebraska: The people- coaches, teammates, fans, community. There really is NO  place like Nebraska!
What you want to do after college: I want to have a family and a career as either a college basketball coach or athletic director... Something involved with sports and competition.
