Fall Camp Continues, Scholarships Announced

Lincoln, Neb. --- The Nebraska football team practiced in Memorial Stadium for two hours in full pads on Saturday afternoon, scrimmaging for the majority of the practice.

Mike Riley spoke to the media after practice to announce players receiving scholarships and discuss his thoughts on the scrimmage. He started by mentioning how he saw the quarterbacks progress.

“We’ve just got to get going, get the right stuff and consolidate what we’re doing, but it was kind of sloppy,” Riley said. “And once we got to playing football, run, pass, mix it all in, it was a pretty good scrimmage and those guys did pretty well.”

Riley went on to talk about the three scholarships that were awarded to players. The recipients were senior linebacker Brad Simpson, senior defensive tackle Logan Rath and senior running back Graham Nabity.

Riley also addressed the hard work that punters Caleb Lightbourn and Isaac Armstrong have put in and said he will soon announce who will be stepping up to take the starting position come Sept. 3.

“I’m so proud of both of those kids, first of all the circumstances and how Caleb [Lightbourn], being new, has responded, and the work Isaac [Armstrong] has done from last spring to right now is phenomenal,” Riley said.

Additionally, Riley commented on the big picture of the program and if the team is on track in preparation for the season.

“I think with the inventory we have in, I think we’ve had good practices as far as situational,” Riley said. “We need a lot of refining work this next week. But as far as establishing base kinds of runs, running the ball, receivers running the ball, quarterbacks, and then what we do in the play-action game, we’ve got enough stuff. It’ll be just a selection process now for the games. So we feel good about that.”
