Senior, Defensive Tackle
On being “the guy” at defensive tackle
“I definitely want to take that role. Like you said, we've got a lot of young guys, and I’m one of the older guys on the team, so they try to feed off the information that I give and the things that I do so I do want take that role as a leader among our group.”
On what the defense has to do this fall to improve
“We just have to be more detailed in what we do and get better every day. Get detailed in what our assignment is telling us to do and attack it every day like no other. We should be fine. Young guys can go in there and learn the playbooks and study it and just pay attention to detail.”
On how hungry the team is
“We’re very hungry. Last year was kind of a culture shock to us, just having a new staff come in, and I think this year around we’re more comfortable with what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. We’re definitely hungry and determined to get back at it.”
On how that hunger played out during the summer
“You can kind of tell from my summer workouts, guys are much more comfortable in what we’re doing and every day everybody was attacking the day and that’s going to play a key role coming into camp.”
On how ready the team is to start fall camp
“We’re very ready. It’s been a long time, and we’re very excited to get back to it tomorrow and see how it plays out.”
On the Davis twins at defensive tackle
“I’ve seen tremendous growth in them. They’ve matured some and they’re tremendous talent and they’re very athletic, and when those guys get going they’re going to be great players. They’re going to help us tremendously.”
On how great the defense can be this year
“I think we can be real great. It starts with us up front though. If we can get to the quarterback, it will help the back end, and if we play with our technique and our assignment football, we’re going to help our linebackers as well. I think we can be real good with the guys that we have.”
