Four Huskers Earn ITA Academic Honors

Seniors Maggy Lehmicke and Mackenna Maddox-Herr, sophomore Katerina Matysova and freshman Paula Del Cueto Castillo all earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors while helping the Huskers claim recognition as an ITA All-Academic Team in 2016.

As a team, Nebraska produced a 3.328 grade-point average. Maddox-Herr, a senior from McKinney, Texas, contributed an impressive 3.965 GPA as a geographic information systems major. Maddox-Herr was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an academic All-Big Ten selection in 2016.

Lehmicke, a senior from Kirkland, Wash., who earned her bachelor's degree after competing for four years on the court for the Huskers, added a 3.700 GPA as a journalism major. Lehmicke was also a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a three-time academic All-Big Ten choice.

Matysova, a sophomore from Erding, Germany, added a strong 3.825 GPA, while claiming Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and academic All-Big Ten honors for the second time in her career.

Del Cueto Castillo, a freshman from Sevilla, Spain, added a solid 3.731 GPA in her first season with the Huskers. She also earned a pair of spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Both Matysova and Del Cueto Castillo are psychology majors at Nebraska.

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, players must be varsity letterwinners with a GPA of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is presented to programs who produce a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letterwinners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2015 and spring 2016).
