Nebraska javelin thrower Sarah Firestone finished seventh at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday. Firestone threw 169-5 (51.65) on her second attempt to earn the seventh-place finish. The top three earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team that will head to Rio de Janeiro in August.
At the Canadian Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, Husker rising sophomore Brittni Wolczyk finished second in the junior javelin with a throw of 163-11 (49.96), which meets the IAAF standard to compete at the U20 World Championships in Poland later this month.
