Lincoln – Nebraska junior outfielder Ryan Boldt was named a third-team academic All-American on Friday, as the 2016 Academic All-American Division I Baseball Team was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). It’s the second straight year Boldt has been named a third-team honoree and he is the first Husker baseball player to earn consecutive honors since Jeff Leise was a first-team pick in both 2002 and 2003. Leise was honored three years in a row, as he was a third-team selection in 2001.
Boldt was eligible for academic All-American honors have being named a first-team Capital One Academic All-District 7 honoree in early May. A native of Red Wing, Minn., Boldt holds a 3.70 GPA as a nutrition science major.
A member of the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch list, Boldt has once again shined on the field and in the classroom for the Huskers in 2016. Earlier this season he became just the 24th player in school history to record 200 career hits and is just the 15th player to do it in three seasons or less.
Boldt and the rest of the Huskers are currently competing in the NCAA Tournament in Clemson, S.C.
Boldt was one of two Big Ten baseball players honored on Friday. He was joined by Michigan senior outfielder Cody Bruder, who was a second-team selection.
