The USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships will take place at Buchanan High School in Clovis, Calif., this weekend, and eight Huskers who just completed their freshman seasons are declared to compete in the meet.
Both Jasmine Barge and Oakland's Ashleigh Carr are qualified in the 400-meter hurdles. Chanel Freeman is entered in the 100-meter hurdles, and Lakayla Harris is declared in the 200 meters. Tierney Lindner will represent the Huskers in the high jump.
For the men, Nick Coghill qualified in both the shot put and discus. Crete native Luke Siedhoff is in the 110-meter hurdles, and Seward's Cale Wagner is entered in the decathlon.
Events begin Friday at 3:45 p.m. (CT), and the meet ends Sunday at 9 p.m. (CT).
Nick Percy will compete at the British Championships in Birmingham, England on Saturday (discus) and Sunday (hammer throw). The NCAA discus national champion recently won the England under-23 title in the event for the second straight year. Quashira McIntosh will race at the Virgin Islands Track and Field National Championships.
In the first week of July, Sarah Firestone (javelin), Cody Rush (400 meters) and Tierra Williams (long jump and triple jump) will compete at U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Ore.
